If you plan on testing in October at the SWKIF Fall Kendo Seminar, you must be a registered member of the AUSKF and SWKIF at least 1 month prior to testing. If you haven't registered with the AUSKF/SWKIF for 2008, email your completed forms to treasurer@dfwkik.org and pay the registration fees at the Online Payments page, or bring checks and forms to class (checks must be payable to DFWKIK). Registration must be submitted no later than September 7, 2008.

All AUSKF members are given a membership number that will be required to test, without this number, all applications for promotion will be denied. Also, all menjo's are in English only.

The dates for the SWKIF Fall Kendo Seminar are set for October 24-26 in Oklahoma City. More info will be posted when available.

The Annual Summer Pool Party and Pot-Luck for DFWKIK will be Saturday, August 2, starting at 4:00 PM. All DFWKIK members and their families are welcome. Please sign up for bringing a dish!

On Thursday, June 5, 2008 the Greenhill School campus will be closed from 4:00 PM to all Greenhill groups and outside organizations (Greenhill School is hosting their Trustee meeting). DFWKIK will be holding regularly scheduled practice at TELOS Fitness Center instead of Greenhill School on Thursday, June 5th only. DFWKIK practice will return to Greenhill School on Sunday, June 7, 2008.

The Ito Dojo is hosting their inaugural Ito Cup Team Shiai (tournament) in honor of Ito Tsutomu Sensei. The tournament will be held at the Ito Dojo in Arvada, Colorado on Saturday, May 10, 2008 from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The format will be 3-person teams; participation on more than one team is allowed and encouraged within reason. Members who wish to compete that do not have a team may enter as "open" competitors and will be placed on a team by the organizers. NOTE: The rates listed in the Registration Packet for La Quinta Inn are no longer available. Please call La Quinta Inn for rates: 303-279-5565.

Sato Hiromitsu Sensei will be visiting Dallas as part of the AUSKF Education Tour program for 2008. Sato Sensei is the Men's Individual Kendo Champion of the 2003 World Kendo Championships that was held in Glasgow, Scotland. Sato Sensei's Dallas visit will be brief, arriving in the afternoon of April 16 and departing to Los Angeles in the morning of the April 18. To accommodate Sato Sensei's visit the class schedule for the 3rd week of April will be changed as follows:

• Tuesday, April 15, 2008 - 8:00 PM - 9:30 PM - Kendo Seniors Class (not canceled)
• Wednesday, April 16, 2008 - 7:00 PM - 9:30 PM - Kendo All Levels
• Thursday, April 17, 2008 - 7:00 PM - 9:30 PM - Kendo Only All Levels (Iaido Canceled)

The 2008 AUSKF Iaido Summer Camp will be held June 4th to 8th, 2008. The Japanese Swordsmanship Society will host the event at Bryn Mawr College in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania.

As many of you know, the dojo is sponsoring a Sayonara Party for Onishi Sensei and his family. The party is scheduled for this Sunday, March 30, 2008 at Mr. Sushi Japanese Restaurant at 6:30 PM. Sushi will be offered to all dojo members and their families free of charge. Other food and drinks will be pay as you go.

The AUSKF is offering the opportunity for young Kendoists (ages 15 to 18 years) to visit Japan for 10 days to study Kendo and participate in various cultural activities. Migita Sensei (8th dan, Kyoshi, Champion of All Japan Kendo Championship in 1976) will lead the Kendo training. The deadline to submit an application is March 25, 2008. AUSKF will select and confirm participants by April 20, 2008.

The Annual DFWKIK Board Meeting is scheduled for Sunday, January 27, 2008 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Greenhill School (in the Tom Perryman Alumni Center - walk outside, all the way to the back of the gymnasium). The meeting is open to anyone interested in in the club. No iaido, kendo kata, or kendo practice this day (depending on time, members in full Bogu may have time for gi-geiko).
