2008/05/29: Class Location Change - Thursday, June 5, 2008
On Thursday, June 5, 2008 the Greenhill School campus will be closed from 4:00 PM to all Greenhill groups and outside organizations (Greenhill School is hosting their Trustee meeting). DFWKIK will be holding regularly scheduled practice at TELOS Fitness Center instead of Greenhill School on Thursday, June 5th only. DFWKIK practice will return to Greenhill School on Sunday, June 7, 2008.

2008/04/02: AUSKF Iaido Summer Camp - Registration Packet Available
The 2008 AUSKF Iaido Summer Camp will be held June 4th to 8th, 2008. The Japanese Swordsmanship Society will host the event at Bryn Mawr College in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania.

2008/04/24: Ito Cup Team Tournament - Arvada, Colorado
The Ito Dojo is hosting their inaugural Ito Cup Team Shiai (tournament) in honor of Ito Tsutomu Sensei. The tournament will be held at the Ito Dojo in Arvada, Colorado on Saturday, May 10, 2008 from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The format will be 3-person teams; participation on more than one team is allowed and encouraged within reason. Members who wish to compete that do not have a team may enter as "open" competitors and will be placed on a team by the organizers. NOTE: The rates listed in the Registration Packet for La Quinta Inn are no longer available. Please call La Quinta Inn for rates: 303-279-5565.

2008/04/11: Sato Sensei Visiting Dallas
Sato Hiromitsu Sensei will be visiting Dallas as part of the AUSKF Education Tour program for 2008. Sato Sensei is the Men's Individual Kendo Champion of the 2003 World Kendo Championships that was held in Glasgow, Scotland. Sato Sensei's Dallas visit will be brief, arriving in the afternoon of April 16 and departing to Los Angeles in the morning of the April 18. To accommodate Sato Sensei's visit the class schedule for the 3rd week of April will be changed as follows:

Tuesday, April 15, 2008 - 8:00 PM - 9:30 PM - Kendo Seniors Class (not canceled)

Wednesday, April 16, 2008 - 7:00 PM - 9:30 PM - Kendo All Levels

Thursday, April 17, 2008 - 7:00 PM - 9:30 PM - Kendo Only All Levels (Iaido Canceled)

2008/03/27: Sayonara Party for Onishi Sensei and Family
As many of you know, the dojo is sponsoring a Sayonara Party for Onishi Sensei and his family. The party is scheduled for this Sunday, March 30, 2008 at Mr. Sushi Japanese Restaurant at 6:30 PM. Sushi will be offered to all dojo members and their families free of charge. Other food and drinks will be pay as you go.

2008/03/10: SWKIF Spring Kendo Seminar & Shinsa
Registration deadline is Thursday, March 20th, 2008.
Please turn in completed forms and payment to DFWKIK Treasurer (Andrew Southworth) or DFWKIK Vice President (Terry Sewell) in class. The SWKIF Spring Kendo Seminar & Shinsa will be held April 11 to 13, 2008. Tucson Kendo Kai will host the event at the El Pueblo Community Center in Tucson, Arizona. Seminar and Shinsa registration packets are now available.

2008/01/26: AUSKF Kendo Youth Exchange Program - August 2nd to 11th, 2008
The AUSKF is offering the opportunity for young Kendoists (ages 15 to 18 years) to visit Japan for 10 days to study Kendo and participate in various cultural activities. Migita Sensei (8th dan, Kyoshi, Champion of All Japan Kendo Championship in 1976) will lead the Kendo training. The deadline to submit an application is March 25, 2008. AUSKF will select and confirm participants by April 20, 2008.

2008/02/11: 2008 Annual AUSKF & SWKIF Membership is Due Sunday, March 2, 2008
Submit completed membership form and payment to DFWKIK Treasurer (Andrew Southworth) or DFWKIK Vice President (Terry Sewell) in class. Payment can also be made online via PayPal and form may be emailed to treasurer@dfwkik.org.

2008/01/07: DFWKIK Board Meeting
The Annual DFWKIK Board Meeting is scheduled for Sunday, January 27, 2008 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Greenhill School (in the Tom Perryman Alumni Center - walk outside, all the way to the back of the gymnasium). The meeting is open to anyone interested in in the club. No iaido, kendo kata, or kendo practice this day (depending on time, members in full Bogu may have time for gi-geiko).

2007/08/22: SWKIF Fall Seminar - October 19th, 2007
The Southwest Kendo and Iaido Federation is holding the 2007 Fall Regional Seminar at Ito Dojo in Denver, Colorado - Friday, October 19th to Sunday, October 21st. Yudansha (Shodan to Sandan) will receive Shimpan (referee) training and Mudansha (1st Kyu and below) will receive team takai training.

2007/05/07: AUSKF 2007 Iaido Camp - Registration Package Available
1) The Omaha Kendo and Iaido Kyokai are very pleased to host the AUSKF 2007 Iaido Camp from Thursday, July 26, 2007 to Sunday, July 29, 2007 at the Iowa School for the Deaf in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Click here to download the registration package.

2006/04/01: Class Schedule Update for April and Registration Deadline
1) Due to Oda Sensei and Marsten Sensei visiting Dallas and the upcoming Nabeshima Cup & Texas Open Kendo Taikai there are changes to the class schedule for April only:

1st Tuesday, April 3rd: Kendo Seniors' Practice instead of Kendo Beginners' Practice (8:00 PM to 9:30 PM - Greenhill School).
Sunday, April 8th: Regular Classes on Easter Sunday.
3rd Tuesday, April 17th: Iaido only (7:15 PM to 9:30 PM - Greenhill School).
Wednesday, April 18th: Iaido only (7:15 PM to 9:30 PM - Greenhill School).
Thursday, April 19th: Kendo only (7:15 PM to 9:30 PM - Greenhill School).
Friday, April 20th: Kendo Seminar (6:30 PM to 9:30 PM - Winston School Gymnasium).
Sunday, April 22nd NO CLASSES due to Kendo Shinsa.

2006/10/07: This Sunday's Class Cancelled
1) Due to the Austin Team Taikai on Sunday 8th October, regular class (Iaido, Kendo Kata, and Kendo) is cancelled on this day.

2006/09/22: No Kendo Class this Sunday, 24 September
1) Due to the Aki Matsuri/Fall Festival this Sunday, 24 September there will be no Kendo class.

2) Dallas Aki Matsuri/Fall Festival will be held Sunday, 24 September from 11am to 4pm at the corner of Alpha Road and Midway Road in North Dallas (just down the street from the Greenhill School where we have regular practice.)

2006/09/21: Class Schedule update
1) Due to the upcoming Austin Team Taikai on 8th October, there are a couple temporary changes to the usual 1st and 3rd Tuesday classes:

For 1st Tuesday on 3rd October, this will be Senior Practice instead of Beginners', specifically for Austin Taikai practice
For 3rd Tuesday on 17th October, this will be Beginner Practice instead of Senior's, specifically for new members practice

1) Practice will be held Thursday, August 3 and Sunday, August 6 in the upstairs wrestling room while the main gymnasium is resurfaced.

2006/03/31: Daylight Saving Time Change for Spring
1) Reminder, Daylight Savings changes this Sunday, April 2, 2006 at 2am. Clocks move forward one (1) hour (so set your clocks and alarms appropriately so as to not be late for class!)

2006/02/20: SWKIF & AUSKF annual dues need to be sent it!

2006/01/22: Board Meeting
1) The Annual DFWKIK Board Meeting is scheduled for this Sunday, January 29, 2006 from 9am to 12pm at the Greenhill School (at the Field House room, located at the end of the main upper gymnasium.) The meeting is open to all members & public interested in in the club. Please also note, there will not be iaido, kendo kata, or kendo this day due to the meeting. Kendo keiko will be held following the meeting for members interested.

2006/01/01: HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!
1) Happy 2006 to all club members, families, and friends!

2) First Class of the year is the regular 1st Tuesday Kendo Beginners class, January 3rd at 8pm, with next classes (as usual) on Thursdays and Sundays.

3) Annual DFWKIK Board Meeting is scheduled for the last Sunday of the month, January 29th at 9am. Regular Iaido, Kendo Kata, Kendo class will NOT be held.

3) Sunday December 18 is also Yamaguchi Sensei's last day with us!

4) Club Photo will be taken again on Sunday December 18, and again will be taken right after Iaido class finishes.

2005/12/06: 2005 Club Photo!
1) Our 2005 DFWKIK Club photo will be taken Sunday, December 11. The photo is planned to be taken after iaido but before kendo. Therefore all current members (beginner & senior) who are available and interested in being part of the club photo are requested to be dressed and ready by the endo of iaido class (aprox. 10:30am.)

2005/10/04: 1st Tuesday Kendo class changed
1) Tuesday, October 4th, is the first Tuesday of the month. Usually for Beginner Kendo, the class will instead be for Seniors. Beginner class will be the third Tuesday of the month instead.

2005/09/12: Sunday class cancelled for Japanese Fall Festival
1) This Sunday, September 18, 2005 there will be no classes. The club will be attending the 2005 Aki Matsuri / Japanese Fall Festival. Click here for more information.
2) The DFWKIK Inoue Cup, planned for September has been indefinitely postponed

2005/09/06: Tuesday Beginner Kendo class end time change
1) Tuesday, September 6th is the first Tuesday of the month. Kendo Beginner's class will be held from 8-9pm (ending 30-minutes earlier than usual.)

2005/08/29: Tuesday Senior Iaido, Japanese festival, & Iaido Seminar
1) This Tuesday, August 30th is the fifth Tuesday of the month. Iaido class is 8-9pm for senior students

2005/08/03: New Temporary location and revised class times

2005/06/09: New Thursday class start time
1) Thursday classes now start at 7:15pm instead of 7:30pm. As always, please arrive early, sweep the dojo, and be dressed/ready to start exactly at the class start time.

2005/04/18: Kendo Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday this week... Class changes!
Please note, we have visiting sensei from Japan throughout this week in preparation for this weekend's seminar, taikai's, and testing.
1) Our regular (3rd Tuesday) seniors Kendo class will be held as usual Tuesday, April 19.
2) A special class will be held Wednesday, April 20 (8pm to 9:30pm at Greenhill) for kendo students wearing bogu.
3) There will be no Iaido this Thursday, April 21. Kendo will start an hour earlier at 7:30 instead. (and obviously no iaido class this Sunday.)

2005/04/12: 2nd Tuesday Class (April 12) for Kendo students wearing Bogu
1) A special class will be held Tuesday, April 12 (8pm to 9:30pm at Greenhill) for kendo students who wear bogu armor. Our guest for this evening is Abe Sensei.

2005/04/03: 1st Tuesday Class Update & Nabeshima Cup
1) Kendo class this Tuesday, April 5 (the 1st Tuesday of the month), usually for beginners, will be for seniors instead.
2) This is the last week to register for the 2005 Nabsehima Cup, Texas Open taikai, shinsa/testing, and kendo seminar. Deadline is Friday, April 8. Click here to go to the web page where you can: find out more information, download the information package with the required forms, and enter online.

2005/03/05: Sunday Class Update
1) Class this Sunday, March 6 will not be held it the main Greenhill gymnasium as usual. Instead it will be held in the wrestling room just above the gymnasium. If there are any further changes, they will be noted here on the Website and with signs at the Greenhill gym.

2005/01/30: 2005 AUSKF & SWKIF Membership Renewal Time:
1) It is time again to apply/renew your annual All United States Kendo Federation and the Southwest Kendo & Iaido Federation membership. Please click here to go to the Process page and access the required form. Form and fee are due by Sunday, February 27, 2005.

2005/01/30: Board Meeting January 30!:

2005/01/23: No Regular Class Sunday! Instead of a regular class (Iaido, Kendo Kata, Kendo) on Sunday, January 30, there will be the annual DFWKIK General Board Meeting starting at 9am, followed afterwards by Kendo free practice.
All members are welcome.

2004/10/28: Thursday, November 4 Location Change. The Thursday, November 4 class will NOT be held at Greenhill as usual. Instead, the class will be held at the Telos center. Click here for more info.

2004/10/04: Class Changes for the week of October 5 through 10:

Beginner Kendo class scheduled for Tuesday, October 5 will not be held. Beginner class will be held on the 3rd Tuesday (October 19) instead.
Senior Kendo will meet Tuesday, October 5.
Sunday class (iaido and kendo) on October 10 is cancelled.

2004/09/24: No regular iaido and kendo practice on Sunday, September 26. The club will be hosting the Inoue Cup iaido tournament from 9:15am.

2004/09/12: No practice on Sunday, September 19. The club will be at the Aki Matsuri Autumn Festival in Richardson performing an Iaido and Kendo demonstration. Please come & enjoy the festival and stop by our booth to say hello or find out more information about us.

2004/08/28: No Iaido or Kendo Sunday, August 29. Due to the club's Mudansha Taikai on August 29th at The Greenhill School, regular Iaido and Kendo classes will not be held on this day.

2004/08/16: DFWKIK Mudansha Kendo Tournament. The club's Mudansha Taikai will be held August 29th at The Greenhill School. Entry form for club members is available now, and due by August 26th.
